Speaking Skills: Get Rid of Nervous Mannerisms

People make judgements about you based on how you speak. Your speech affects your credibility and even how intelligent you are seen as being.

I recently watched a presentation where the speaker used “uh,” “umm” and other verbal fillers more than 37 times in 10 minutes. I counted. He fidgeted, put his hands in his pockets and looked completely uncomfortable. He knew his subject, but his nervous mannerisms made him appear less than credible.

Fillers, tics and nervous mannerisms are most common when speaking in front of a group, but they can creep in to your daily conversations, too. At the airport, I overheard two women having a business conversation and I was astounded at how often they used the word “like.”

If you catch yourself using “like,” “uh,” “you know,” etc., it usually means that you are stalling for time to think of your next word. Slow down. Take a breath. Think about what you’re saying.

Ask a friend to signal you when you slip into one of your bad habits.

Record yourself speaking in different situations and listen to how you sound.

Concentrate on removing one bad habit at a time. Trying to fix everything at once may make you more nervous and self-conscious when you speak. Start by, for example, getting rid of “like.”

Remember that anyone listening to you speak, whether one-on-one or in a group, is usually hoping you will speak well and communicate effectively. They’re on your side. Don’t let nervousness affect your ability to communicate powerfully.

Hotels Aren’t the Only Place You Can Stay on Vacation!

Today, we as travelers have a ton of options to consider. Where to go, how to get there, where to stay, what to take, how to plan, where to find deals… You get the point. Well, this article is to introduce you to options on where to stay other than a hotel.

Hotels are a great option. They can be just what you need for your trip, especially if it’s just two of you. You can go with big chains that are well trusted or small chains that may take some digging to ensure you get a nice, clean, affordable hotel room with everything you need. However, if you travel with a number of people or as a family, a hotel room can get cramped, lack privacy, and get expensive when you upgrade to suites and add extra amenities (like a kitchenette).

Hotels though are great because it is easy to find a lot of good deals with all the viable travel sites out there.

But, you do have other options….

**How about a condo? Condos are great, and in some destinations the main option. Condos can be small or big. They offer added space, extra amenities, prime locations, and at prices that are comparable to hotel rooms.

For example, we stayed in a quaint (small) condo in Miami. We rented it for only $400 for the week. It was perfect for my wife and I. The beds pulled down out of the wall, we had a very very clean room, private entrance to the place and beaches, quiet area, 2 pools, a kitchen with equipment, a nice bathroom, cable, and gorgeous view of the Atlantic. It was our “love shack” for the week and much cheaper by almost $200 than any hotel in the area.

**Rent a home. These are now great with the way real estate is nowadays. If you are traveling with a large group, then this may be your best choice. Get everything you need or live like luxury in a beachfront home for your vacation.

Once, 18 of our family members went to Florida and had to rent a home. It was not on the Ocean, but on a bay. It was perfect. It had 3 levels, a hot tub, pool, 4-5 bedrooms, plenty of room, amenities, and lots of fun. We had a great time together since everyone lives in different parts of the country. It was very affordable once split up 4 ways also.

**Resorts and All-inclusive. This is an excellent option for families or if you don’t want to worry about reaching into your pocket. All-inclusive seems to be diminishing in the US, but you can find it abroad and is typically the best choice. Resorts are great for those who want to spend quality time together, get plenty of privacy and space, and enjoy various activities like golf, fishing, things for the kids, spas, etc…

**Time Shares. These are growing tremendously in the traveling world. Time-shares are great if you use them. You pay a fee upfront and once a year to utilize a time-share. There are various types, so you would want to do your research. Buying a time-share is similar to buying a home in that you don’t want to take the decision lightly.

My wife’s parents have one and love it. They can go anywhere they want as long as they stay in the designated places. We used theirs for our honeymoon in Palm Beach, Florida. It was first-class all the way.

If you and your family travel at least once a year, consider looking into a time-share.

**Camping and RV parks. With the way campgrounds and RV parks are set up nowadays, the term “rough it” doesn’t exactly come to mind. You can get almost everything at a campground that you’d get in a hotel. They are cheap, live out in nature for a week, and have a great time. There are a few things to consider if you are a novice to camping, so you’ll want to do some homework before you decide on this as an option.

**Houseboats. Live on the water for your trip. This is, yet another option to choose from. My aunt has lived on a houseboat in Florida for years and loves it. This is something many don’t even think of, but look into it, you may not go back to staying on land for any future trips.

We hope this article has helped shed some light on where you might stay on your vacations. Villas, Cabins, and other type choices should be considered for specific destinations and vacations.

Most importantly, have fun, find great deals, and enjoy your trip!!

Case Study Attention Deficit Disorder

Studies have shown that Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) has
exposed that fish oil may help slow down symptoms of ADHD/ADD.
The symptoms of ADHD/ADD include coordination disabilities,
learning perplexity, hypertension, emotional impairments,
inability to focus, impulsive behaviors, short tension span, and
more.

ADHD/ADD is a common diagnose with many adults and children
today, and the studies are showing that Attention Deficit
Disorder patients that use fish oils provide more relief than
Adderall, Ritalin, and other medications that are often giving
to ADHD/ADD patients. Doctors have recently learned that
Thyroids, lead poisoning, and other chemicals impairments are
responsible for Attention Deficit Disorders in children.

The high epidemic, leads researchers to uncover many
possibilities to find answer to this ongoing scope of disorders.
Doctors have included therapeutic tactics, combing the strategy
with medicines and education. The treatment integration for
ADHD/ADD patients have proved effective, however doctors are
extending their search to find a solution for ADHD/ADD patients,
approaching stimulants to resolve the variance.

Recent studies have found that stimulants are the leading cause
of other epidemic problems in both children and adults. Children
today are treated for psychotic episodes, including traits,
tendencies, and so forth, as a direct result of medications
given to ADHD/ADD patients. Ritalin and Adderall, as well as
other stimulating drugs are linked to psychosis, psychoses,
bipolar, manic depression, and schizophrenia episodes. The
soaring rate of children and adults diagnosed with ADHD/ADD are
guinea pigs for the doctors that prescribe the healing medicines.

Is it any wonder the world is increasing with problems? Natural
resources are currently studied, as the researchers are now
finding that natural resources are a better solution than what
is offered in stimulants. Researchers have also found that the
many that are diagnosed with ADHD/ADD often use alcohol and
drugs to relieve their pains and sufferings, and sometimes the
stimulants are a direct reason for the addictions. Case studies
with Attention Deficit Disorders have shown that Docosahexaenoic
Acid (DHA) is an essential element to the central processing of
the brain tissues.

Studies has shown that the loss of memory, depression, ADHD/ADD
symptoms, as well as the many other related problems may very
well be linked to low Docosahexaenoic (DHA). Researchers are
constantly searching for solutions that are more effective to
treating the epidemic of ADHD/ADD, and currently fish oil is the
ultimate solution, coupled with therapy and education.

Off Track

I am going to jump off track at this point, since I have done my
own analytic studies, research, and observed my son that suffers
with Attention Deficit Disorder. I have found in my studies that
Chiropractic Solutions are a great resource for effective
correction in ADHD/ADD.

I have also found that Concentrated Omega3 coupled with
Spectrient is also helpful to those that suffer with Attention
Deficit Disorders. My son was on medications for more than four
years, and all the issues addressed above are true. My son
suffers psychosis, ADHD, anxiety, schizophrenia, as well as
other symptoms. Since I stopped going to the doctor, and
treating him with natural resources, my son is now improving
with his behaviors, actions, and so on.

There are days that are bad for him, but he is now able to admit
when he is wrong. I found that doctors do not always have the
answers, and believe that the doctors that study ADHD/ADD need
to listen more to the patients and the parents since these
people are constantly dealing with this type of situation daily,
and sees more than any doctor could ever see. In my study, I
also noticed that many counselors are lacking in the treatment
for ADHD/ADD patients, by instantly sending them to a
psychologist for medications.

I am firm believer that education is the ultimate solution for
many of those suffer with diagnosis, including schizophrenia,
psychosis, psychotics, multiple personality disorder, ADHD/ADD
and so on.

The only disorder or diagnose that I recommend to KEEP as far
away from education in some areas is sociopath and psychopathic.
I watched as these personality types use education to their
advantage to hurt others. I have a second son with psychopathic
tendencies, intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional
defiance disorder, impulsive control disorder, and other
disorders and as I watched him, he studied the legal structure
in an effort to find a way to kill and get away with it.

Things to Avoid When Applying for a Home Loan - the Five Don’ts to Get the Best Mortgage

The good news is that more people than ever can buy a home. Now for something a little less palatable: it’s going to take a lot of patience, restraint and some careful planning to get there.

Here are some warning tips on what to avoid doing right now so you can get the best mortgage later on. If you are not qualified because of credit issues right now, never lose hope for you can always plan for the future. It is very possible that in a few months time you will be able to buy a home if you follow these tips.

THE FIVE BIG DON’TS

1. First off, don’t make any big purchases over the next couple of months. Besides the obvious fact that it makes less money available for the down payment, it might require to get yet another loan. A significant debt such as a $15,000 auto loan will look bad to the mortgage lender’s credit scoring systems. Plus. The human underwriter won’t want to see you adding a couple of hundred dollars per month to your monthly expenses. Generally, as a rule of thumb, you want your total debt obligation to be no more than 36% of your gross monthly income. You certainly don’t want to load up on consumer debt if you’re anticipating purchasing a home and you’re unsure of what your mortgage payment is going to be and if you think you’re within the range of exceeding that 36% requirement.

2. Don’t try for a much more expensive home if its going to be too much of a stretch in your current budget. Lender’s consider what’s known in the industry as “payment shock” when approving loans. Somebody who goes from relatively small monthly housing payment to a huge one either won’t qualify for a mortgage or will end up having to cover too much loan with too little money. You have to make sure you’re comfortable about that kind of a debt load.

3. Don’t just get prequalified for a mortgage, get preapproved. To get prequalified, a borrower need only submit credit, income and et information voluntarily to a mortgage broker or lender. That means the resulting estimate of the maximum mortgage and home that’s affordable is exactly than - an estimate. Before they can get preapproved, however, home buyers must allow their lenders to pull credit reports, check debt-to-income ratios and perform other underwriting steps. That puts a borrower much closer to obtaining a loan and locking in a rate and term.

4. Don’t forget what kind of money personality you have when getting a mortgage. By taking out a 30-year fixed rate loan rather than a 15 year mortgage and investing the money saved on monthly payments, you might earn a higher return on your money in the long run. But that approach won’t work for people who spend any extra cash laying around on dinner and a movie twice a week. They can force themselves into saving and accumulating equity faster by going with the shorter term and higher payment.

5. Last but not least, don’t forget that homeownership brings with it many burdens. The cost of defaulting on a loan is much greater than the penalty of missing a rent payment. Too many black marks on the financial history and it will be 23% interest credit card mailers that show up in the mailbox rather than the 9.9% ones your neighbor gets.

Are You Self-Centred?

Do you believe that you’re self-centred? Or are you reading this to reassure yourself that you’re not? Because we all know that being self-centred is bad, right? Not that we’ve established exactly what we think the term means. Maybe we don’t even share the same definition.

Maybe, it’s the ’self’ part that triggers our value judgement. It’s like a trainer on a course I attended recently, who said that self-love made people unpleasant, even damaging, to be around.

When I challenged her, she admitted that people who truly loved themselves first would be loving and supportive towards other people, whereas self-obsessed people behave in a thoughtless, careless fashion. She’d just used the phrase ’self-love’ as a convenient shorthand.

It’s the ’self’ word that tends to provoke the knee-jerk reaction. We treat ’self’ in combination with any other word as a synonym of selfish - and we all know, from childhood on, that selfishness is a mortal sin.

So self-centredness must be a deplorable shortcoming too, mustn’t it? Actually, it depends.

If a person truly believes that he, or she, is the centre of the entire universe and treats everyone else as peripheral, insignificant beings, then, yes, that is pretty deplorable.

But if a person places themselves at the centre of their own world that is a very different matter.

Where else should they be, after all? If they don’t fill the space at the centre of their world, someone else will just muscle in and fill it for them. Someone else, in other words, will colonise their centre.

We’ve all seen it done often enough; all come across those generous, shadowy creatures who spend their whole life falling over themselves for the other people who shamelessly colonise their centre. They meet with precious little appreciation for all the effort they expend.

The technical term for these people is ‘doormats’. They end up being self-sacrificing (there’s much less of a stigma attached to that phrase) whether they want to or not, because they can’t help themselves.

On the other hand, the people who honour their own self, by setting it at the centre of their world, enjoy personal empowerment. They can set the boundaries around their self and their world as close, or as far away, from their centre as they see fit at any given moment.

Their world is spacious enough to incorporate anyone they choose. And because they are in a state of empowerment they can honour all those whom they share their world with, even as they honour themselves.

My definition of healthy self-centredness is that it is the precondition of a respectful relationship between adults. It is not to be confused with the infantile clamouring for attention and instant satisfaction of every need, however unreasonable.

Mature self-centredness is about creating win-win situations.

When you start to look at it that way, I wonder, how self-centred are you really? And how self-centred do you want to be?

Can you see your way to making it your New Year’s resolution for 2006 to become more self-centred?

The Games with the Higher Payouts

For the professional gambler, what is characterized as a fun
game is obviously the ones with higher chances of payouts. How
could it be fun for any of us when we lose money? Just losing
money to your spouse for shopping already hurts. Think about
losing it to a casino. Egad!

Blackjack and Video Poker are games that have high payouts. This
makes these games more enjoyable to play for gamblers.

The payout for blackjack depends on many small variations of the
rule. Some of these rules that should be given concern are: how
many decks of cards are being used? Can a player double and
split bets on few hands? Does the dealer peak for blackjack
before the players? Can the player still surrender when the
dealer has an ace for an up card?

There was a time that players were given better odds in online
blackjack. Now, the odds have been changed once again to favor
the casinos. The situation could be described simply as a
marketing strategy. They may have given better odds to make
players enjoy their winnings for a while. It eventually makes
the player want to play more.

Now, to win better at blackjack even if the odds are against
you, all you need to do is learn basic strategy.

Video poker is another game that can give better payouts.
However, not all video poker games are the same. Before starting
to play video poker, look at the pay tables in front of the
video poker game. Then compare the pay tables with other
machines. If you have chosen a machine with a bad pay table, you
are just financing the casino’s next casino.

After finding the table that has fairly good pay table rates,
you will now have the odds against the machine. It could even
exceed 100% in the longer run.

You won’t even have to rely on your lucky charms here. If played
properly, the edge will be given to you. But that’s if you play
perfectly. But there are very few players that can be able to do
so.

Sometimes, video poker gives you a higher chance of winning
compared to blackjack. However, the variance in rules in video
poker is greater. It means that when playing video poker, your
money will go up and down like a roller coaster.

This is because to be able to get a higher return in video
poker, you’ll need a Royal straight Flush. The chances of
achieving that combination in video poker are only one in
40,000. It means that you’ll be playing a whole lot of poker
just to get that high return.

However, video poker also offers the player chances of a single
big win with only a small bet. This can not happen in black jack.

Bottom line: if you are looking to have a good time by winning
money, play video poker or black jack.

Toyota FTSX Concept, a Bolder, More Decisive Image for Toyota; Retain the Image with Toyota

The goal of the Toyota FTSX concept is to have the space and ride height of an SUV with the comfort, handling, and efficiency of a sedan. “We began with a totally new silhouette and package, lower and wider than an SUV, but taller, more comfortable, and more versatile than a sedan. Add a powerful V6, all-wheel drive, 21-inch wheels, four doors, a large, multi-function glass roof and an innovative rear hatch and you have a vehicle with exceptional functionality,” remarked Kevin Hunter, vice president, design and studio activities at Calty Design Research, Inc.

Powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine, the FT-SX is 187 inches long, 74.4 inches wide, and 61 inches tall. It uses 21-inch wheels (though a production model would probably not go over 18 inches) with 255/45R21 tires, and has a 114-inch wheelbase.

The FT-SX features a powerful V6 engine, all-wheel drive, 21-inch wheels, four doors, a large, and a multi-function glass roof. The four-door concept boasts V-6 power, all-wheel drive, 21-inch wheels, and a large glass roof. Toyota claims that the front-end layout of the FT-SX is “an all-new expression” and that the look, which it calls “T-Face,” will become the new design language for the company.

The FT-SX has a trick rear hatch, which allows two panels in the glass roof to slide toward the center of the vehicle, creating both a larger opening and a rear sunroof. Pivoting the upper and lower halves of the hatch up or down, respectively, can make access to the cargo area. When the lower part of the hatch is down, a loading tray automatically extends to aid with cargo loading and unloading. The Toyota FTSX concept is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 and automatic transmission, with running gear for on-road performance.

Devil May Cry Review for the Playstation 2 (PS2)

Devil May Cry contains many similarities reminiscent to Resident Evil because it was intended to be part four in the sequel, but midway through production someone suggested refashioning it into a whole new game instead. The camera has many of the same characteristics that Resident Evil has such as a static positioning that requires the constant adjustment of the analog stick causing a disorienting feeling for the player; however the camera is positioned farther back giving the player an ample view of what is going on all around the character. The castle and the grounds surrounding the castle where the game takes place are also redolent of the Resident Evil games, although altered the basic feel screams reproduction.

The hero of the game is named Dante, he is a half-human, half-demon private investigator of the super natural who works out of a place called Devil May Cry. Dante is the son of Sparda who was a legendary dark knight that also fought against evil. He carries his father’s sword and one day hopes to avenge the death of his mother and his brother. At the start of the game he meets a woman named Trish who also exhibits superhuman abilities, she asks him to come with her to Mallet Island because something unnatural is going on there. Dante agrees to go, rather grudgingly though, after all he just met her.

Mallet Island is the gateway to the Netherworld, this is where the fun begins. Dante and Trish must scale the walls to reach the entrance of the castle, Trish disappears from Dante’s site and he is now left to his own devises. Once he has entered the castle he finds that all of the doors are locked and he must find a certain number of red orbs in order to gain access to the rest of the castle.

The ultimate evil behind everything is Mundus, the emperor of darkness. Mundus wishes to take over the word and unleash hell upon it. Mundus was once vanquished more than two thousand years ago by Sparda, but now he returns as evil as ever before. Dante has taken over his father’s role as savior of the world even if he does not know it yet he must free the world from Mundus and all of his evil.

Following the path that will eventually lead him to Mundus Dante encounters many other villians that he must slaughter. Some of Dante’s enemies are Sin Scissors who wear long robes, float in the air, and try to kill you with scissors big enough to cut off your head; Sargosso who is a floating skull; Kyklops is a giant spider with a glowing eye; Marionettes are possessed puppets; Sin Scythes are a stronger version of the Sin Scissors; Beelzebubs are giant insects; Blades are reptilian in form, but wear helmets and carry a shield; Fetish have faces similar to birds and carry blades that are on fire; Plasma are glowing blue creatures; Frosts are a stronger version of Blades; and Nobody crawls on the ground with giant claws. The enemies of this game are ingeniously thought out and masterfully crafted into action. Among these enemies there are still boss characters to defeat, they are called Phantom, Nero Angelo, Griffon, Nightmare, and Mundus. The bosses are not easy to defeat and will probably take multiple tries.

Through the game Dante collects orbs that come in five different colors; each color orb corresponds to a different result. The red orbs open unlocked doors and give you power-ups; the green orbs heal you; the purple increase the gauge of the demon mode; the yellow allow you to continue after you die; and the blue increase the life gauge. These orbs are obtained in many different ways, but mostly they are received by killing the enemies. There are also three different colored stars to be aware of, the green stars heal; the yellow make you invincible for awhile; and the purple refill a portion of the demon gauge. They are great to use when fighting a boss character.

When Dante picks up enough red orbs you will get a chance to choose what new moves you would like to learn. Some of these attacks are a kick jump, roll, multi-stroke, high time, stinger, stinger jump, round trip, air hike move, devil mode, air raid, vortex, rolling blaze, magma drive, kick 13, meteor, and inferno. The number of red orbs that are required for each of these moves depends entirely on how strong the move is, the stronger the move the more orbs it will cost you. Along with these attacks Dante picks up bottles of holy water as he goes along which can be used to kill all of the enemies that surround you when you use it. You already know that Dante comes equipped with his father’s sword, but he also comes with two 45’s that he calls ebony and ivory. These guns are so easy to use its like taking candy from a baby at times. He also acquires different guns throughout the game, some of them are really good and some of them it feels like why bother.

During the game you will complete a total of 23 missions and 12 secret missions which really doesn’t take as long as you might think. This game is fairly short, somewhere under ten hours long from start to finish. It comes complete with great visuals that have a more gothic style to it, music that is fitting for each of the scenes, and it runs at 60 frames per second through the entire game. The graphics are stunning, very unique in design, almost flawless. The camera is its major downfall being that it is almost an exact duplicate of the Resident Evil cameras. The camera doesn’t always keep up with the player and everything else that is going on in the game at the same time. The story itself is a little on the hokey side and the missions are all similar to the ones before them; kill the bad guys. There is a little bit of a puzzle to figure out as you progress through the game so it is not all just a matter of following a set path and then killing everything in sight. All in all this is a very good game, hard enough to keep you interested, but not so hard that you get frustrated.

Legal Issues Surrounding Divorce

There are two types of divorce: absolute and limited. Absolute, or “divorce a vinculo matu monii”, is the judicial termination of a marriage based on marital misconduct or other statutory causes after the wedding ceremonysuch as adultery. After the divorce, both parties are deemed single again. Limited, or “divorce a mensa et thoro” is a separation decree, where the marriage is not fully terminated, and the couple still retain their civil status as married.

There are seven steps in having a divorce. While the process varies from couple to couple, depending on the situation of both parties, there are some essential procedures in filing for a divorce. One thing is certain, however: divorcing couples who are mature enough to agree on certain issues makes for a smoother divorce.

First, one party must file a petition for divorce. Even if both parties agree on a divorce, one must file the petition, which states the ground for divorce. There is such a thing as “no fault” grounds, which simply states that the relationship is no longer viable (such as “irreconcilable differences”). While many states allow this, some states still consider ground faults, such as adultery.

A temporary order is the next step. This is for claiming temporary financial support, child support, of custody. This is granted a few days after filing, and remains in effect until a formal court hearing. One should file for this ASAP.

A service of process is then required. This is to prove that the petition has reached the other party as well. A response is then needed from the other party. He or she must file a response to the petition, and is allowed to either dispute the grounds or defend himself or herself from them. Disagreements on custody or property division should also be filed with the response.

A negotiation for the division of property and custody comes next. The court usually lets the couple and their respective lawyers handle this, but if they cannot agree on anything, the court has to decide for them. Children are usually the responsibility of social workers, whom the court calls in to check on the living conditions of each spouse if it is fit for the children. A trial then ensues, to smooth out issues the couple couldn’t resolve by themselves.

Finally, an order of resolution is given, which ends the marriage and contains the division of property and debts. If the couple has negotiated these issues themselves, they can write their own order of resolution and submit it to court. If it meets the requirements, the judge approves it.
